Activities on Niue
Home and Virtually the only sight of the Ocean – Ocean. There are not so many beaches, as I would like a crammed tourist, but there are amazing water (visibility in some places – up to 70 meters) and a variety of underwater life. It is because of the fact that the island itself is complicated by porous limestones, it does not have inland reservoirs, and all the rainwater flies quickly through this huge natural filter, leaning extensive emptiness and getting into the sea already crystal and devoid of absolutely all impurities. As a result, the water around the NIUE is very transparent, and the animal world has the opportunity to develop both in the safe zone behind the walls of the reefs or under the arches of numerous underwater caves, and almost in the open sea opposite the extensive break in the rhyphic ring on the western part of the island. As a result, the richest ecathomyosis was formed here, consisting of both representatives of the reef zone and from the species inherent in the fauna of the open ocean. Steep slopes of the underwater base of the island, densely overgrown with coral "Garden", go to the ocean abyss, and the surrounding water are abounding with flocks of fish of all kinds of species. This allowed NIUE to become one of the diving centers in the region. You can dive virtually directly into the open waters of the Pacific Ocean, so already within the direct visibility of the coast you can make a immersion of any complexity, and many of them pass on numerous picturesque underwater canyons, through caves or underwater cavity in a coral array.
You can make excellent immersions from the Alophy area, sailing only 100 meters from the coast, and go down to the exposure of the coral base of the island at a 40-meter depth, here the edge of the underwater mountain is already visible – which, essentially, is Niue, – called Ebes ("Abyss").
Great place for diving – Motel area Coral Gardens Motel in Namui, where the most popular routes pass through the ancient coral "Mountain ridges" and where meetings regularly occur with numerous sea turtles. A trip to the opposite coast of the island will lead to the famous Chimney ("Chimney"), where already 5 meters below the surface begins vertical "Underwater" Through a 23-meter cave, which goes into a natural mine and comes out through a large cavity in the open sea.
There are good underwater caves in Vaitafa (800 meters south of Fulala and 2.5 km north of Lakup), surprising and viikon-hours 4 km south. Togo-hour On the east side of the island (4 km north of Khakap) – one of the most beautiful areas of the NIU with a wall of a lush rainforest, high coral turrets and an oasis of white sand on the shore and hanging rocks, under which cozy coves with large depths hide. 3 km north of Khakap lies the fill Votoi, Where you can see the ruins of the Japanese fishing vessel, which was thrown onto the storm in 1967, and very nearby, on the border with Hakap’s heritage park, you can make a dive (and just go down on foot to the surface part) to sources of fresh water Anapale-Count, One of the few on the island, by the way. Well, of course, one of the most popular places is the giant cave Avaiki with a very large and deep water pool, over which giant stalagmites hang.
District Avatel – The dream of photographers and above and below the water. Usually the route starts from the beautiful little lagoon used by the locals for the parking lot of their fishing canoe ("Vaca"). Immersion on the sites nearby from traditional Fishing Places islanders, in the area of Matawai Resort, will provide such species for filming, which is unlikely to be able to find anyone else outside of this bay. Along with clear water, coral gardens and abundance of colorful reef fish, a diver here is waiting for another unique impression – in these waters are quite frequent meetings with a timid and rare Nioon Sea Snake, as well as not so rare reef sharks or Maori herbanis and giant reef perch. If diving in the caves is a sufficiently dangerous event and requires a certain preparation, then the motels of Numukulu, where there are two huge caves under water, in which several buses could fit, dives easier and available for beginner divers.
Another local "attraction" – Watching whales. In the period from June to October-November, numerous herds of humpback whales and dolphins pass by Niue on their way to reproduction places. In view of the high depth of local waters, these mammals are not afraid to approach almost the shore itself, so near the Alophy and the resort of Matavai Resort, as well as in the bays around the Avatel and Tamakutoga, you can see the sea giants only 50 meters from water riva. The constant presence of dolphins is and characteristic of snorkeling in these places. These curious and friendly marine inhabitants often accompany the diver throughout the dive, which gives him a unique charm, and the locals themselves consider the presence of dolphins with better insurance against sharks and other dangerous marine inhabitants.
Snorkeling
Excellent Conditions for Snorkeling can be found in the area Snake Gully (Underwater span, widely known as a place of cluster of marine snakes, hence its name). "Katulya", or Polynesian sea snake, in general is a visiting card of dives in the waters of the NIUE – in some places these are quite dangerous, but very timid marine inhabitants form quite large clusters, and in the presence of certain skills and experience, you can almost safely observe these ancient creatures. And a huge number of types of tropical fish, as well as dolphins and migrating the herds of whales and are completely converting NIUE into a real klondike for an experienced fool of snorkeling. Good water around Lima Puls (Ana-Maara), Matap-hours, Array House ("Dome"), near Ejipte, Snake Galli, Chimni and Babble Cave, as well as on the east coast, in Waitafe. Sail only with a mask and a tube in the waters of the NIUE, since the abundance of rocks and caves, as well as the restless water of the Open Sea create a lot of difficulties, but the reward for such a risky dive can be acquainted with one of the most relict corners of the World Ocean.

Sea fishing
Sea fishing – one of "Business cards" NIUE. Traditional canoes and super-modern fishing boats daily with hundreds go to the sea for fishing such a rich fish here. Especially excitingly spectacular local "Putin" On the Sunset. Varieties of fish that are caught within just 500 meters from the coastline include "Paly", or Wahu, reaching here up to 6 meters in length, tuna, mahimahi (delicious fish taste!), giant Trelli, Suncher and Marlin. When fishing can be simply enjoying a brown coastal landscape and observation through transparent water for marine life, omnipresent dolphins, whales, turtles, flying fish and sea snakes. So, even if the catch is small (which in itself is unlikely), the pleasure of such a pastime is guaranteed. And canoeing or boat can be rented everywhere.
Trekking
The island has about 2,500 hectares of some of the most serene forests in the world called locals "tap" (good noticeable consonant with traditional Polynesian word "taboo"), where for centuries did not step by a person’s leg – many forests were considered forbidden (not from here if their name?), others were simply on the concepts of aborigines "too high". Now all the forests of the island, except for one guarded by the village of Khakap (Hakap Park), are available for visiting. They have a magnificent undergrowth, coconut palms and a black tree grow in abundance, some samples of which are considered the oldest of those known on the planet. Easy and scattered island forest in general covers approximately 14 thousand hectares – a great place for hiking and picnics (only on specially allocated places!), and on the edge of the forest immediately begins the coast with the picturesque clauses of the outcrops of coral, where you can easily find cozy swimming pools for swimming or sunbathing.
