Convincing live from the bridge through the Yangtze

In Chinese culture, unlike Japanese, there is no suicide. Less warlike and not so categorical, the Chinese are historically inclined easier to treat the life of the periodies and easier to demolish the blows of fate, seeing the way in them to polish their ability to maintain internal harmony. (We wrote about this phenomenon in the article "Patience of Chinese".) Nevertheless, the breakthrough and unbalanced development of China in recent decades could not impose an imprint on the psyche of the nation. Acceleration of life rhythm in Chinese megalopolis led to the fact that young people here are accustomed to live today and lost its inherent ability to think incentives. Modern Chinese can not always "cope with control" on a cool turn of fate and are forced to resort to the latter way to free yourself from the maximum of internal pressure.

Homecoming?

At the same time, a person who decided to suicide, often chooses for farewell to the life of a majestic and picturesque place, in which, if neither paradoxically, it is best to feel, as a beautiful life, as limitless forces of nature or man, created such a miracle. That is what the Golden Gate Bridge in American San Francisco, Kusfossen waterfall in Norway or Rock Bichi-Head in the UK, acquired. Psychologists explain this by the desire of a person for the last time to join the raising power of life and feel that he "returns home" – into the world, peace and beauty.

In China, too, there is such a place – a big bridge over the Yangtze in Nanjing. Built in 1968, this bridge is a symbol of the grandeur and independence of the Chinese nation, since this is the first infrastructure facility of this scale, built without the help of Soviet engineers. Indeed, when you find yourself under his arches, breathing intercepts the constructions with awareness of the massiveness: it is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the longest bridge, intended at the same time for cars, and for trains. It seems that he is lost somewhere under the clouds, although the height, according to modern standards, he is not very big – 85 m in the main support.

The Giant Dragon rolls its wide waters through the entire China, and Nanjing is near his huge delta. The feeling of the depression of the magnitude and fragmentation of the life of human grace here will cover and not the most desperate mind

Climb upstairs from the embankment. You can except on the elevator. 50-year-old brown walls are resurrected in the mind of the scenes of great socialist buildings, familiar with the young generation on films and photographs. From above you can take a look at the Yangtze – the longest and long-water river Eurasia. The Giant Dragon rolls its wide waters through the entire China, and Nanjing is near his huge delta. The feeling of the depression of the magnitude and fragmentation of the life of human grace here will cover and not the most desperate mind.

Official suicide statistics in China No: all information is classified. According to some data found in the Chinese Internet, for the entire period of the existence of the bridge, a thousand people jumped off. However, other sources claim that such unfortunates got two times more, which bridges a large bridge over the Yangtze in the first place in the number of suicides: even the "Golden Gate" became a farewell to life for one and a half thousand, although they were built 30 years earlier.

2000 people in 49 years! These are three or four interrupted life per month. On the other hand, in the early 2000s, one significant event occurred, which influenced the statistics. This year, a resident of Nanjing Chen Si on a voluntary basis in his free time began to patrol the bridge over his entire length, which several accidents reduced the average accident.

Salvation of life is not fiction

Delightful Internet admirers have long gave Chen Sousies almost mythical nickname "I am convincing living with the bridge through the Yangtze" ("Changziang Datsiao Tsyuanshhenchhe"). He saved the first life in 2002. It was a woman, deceiving involved in the fraudulent pyramid and deciding to die, just to avoid blackmail with extortion of money. Then the random passerin, Chen John noticed in time with an absent-standing figure at the railing figure and, not a bag, pulled it from the edge of the abyss and handed over to the hands of patriolers. On the salvation of women wrote in a local newspaper. The note Chen Socially cut out and folded into a secluded place together with his registration – a document that is almost as important for the Chinese as an identity card. Thanks to this case, Chen s donkened: it turns out that the salvation of life is not something beyond fiction.

On September 19, 2003, Chen Socials first came to patrolling the bridge – in order of personal initiative, not expecting no remuneration. On weekdays, he works in a logistics company. And on weekends and holidays sits onto our electricity and travels to a large bridge of 25 km, whole days spending in the zorkie observation of passersby. The stories of those who decided to reduce the scores with life, Chen Si records in the "Big Bridge Diary":

"The girl was engaged in prostitution to bust his boyfriend’s money to study abroad … The guy left to learn along with another girl.".

"A young man with his own hands made himself a small business and a decent state … and lost everything in a casino on one night".

For 14 years, not one notebook was written. More than half of the people who tried to jump off the people’s bridge – not local young people without education: We arrived in Nanjing to earnings, work hellish, nor a single native soul to rely on. Others – Unfortunate Lovers. Like these people in our time.

Look eyes

How to understand that a person wants to reduce the scores with life? Chen sch says: you need to look at the eyes, on the movement. If the gait is heavy, the look is empty and scattered, sat down and sits ten minutes without movement, in the hands of neither a wallet, no phone, lips are tightly compressed – then you should stay closer to him, watch.

Chen’s exposured person is trying to calm down, using several techniques that have learned from psychologists. Then he escorts them on the "heart station" – in the house of two rooms, with four beds, where people live from week to month, trying to come to themselves. Money for rent Chen Soul Pays from his pocket. Previously, he led suicides into a small hotel, but the director eventually forbade: "And if they have been able to resolve? Who is responsible incurred?"

On the "cardiac station" many photos of Chen Si many important persons of the city and countries expressing gratitude to him. "This is me not to boast, and so that people see that I am not just so, I can help them," says Chen Si. Together with other volunteers, he every way occupies leisure saved: Walking and sports, calligraphy and, of course, dinners and gathering behind a bottle of beer are organized, after which the heart of people softens, many cry and promise to start a new life.

From October 2016, a large bridge is on repair and closed for cars and passersby. However, Chen Sousie knows: the gloomy magnetism of this place is still attracting people. Now he patrols the shores of Yangtze 10 km in both directions from the bridge. The task has become more difficult: visibility is worse here, and the unfortunate suicide bumps, envy patrol, can easily hide behind the thick coastal cane. Waves from the shores sheeps and again puts on the sand now already incomplete shoes – shabby pairs of shoes, discarded by their owners, so that it was easier to climb through a half-one-meter barrier. Over the years of patrols, Chen Socy picked up about 40 such couples, trying to unravel the stories karing them with bitterness – "I didn’t save one more".

Chen Sy – a man is not religious. But he often goes to the temples to put incense for the recovery of those whom he saved, and the rest of those who could not be saved. "Despite all my efforts, most often I feel helplessness. Sometimes a person jumps from the bridge just 10 m from you. You just did not arrive "

Urban authorities put on every shore near the bridge over the iron plate with motivational phrases such as calls to appreciate life, think about the mountain of loved ones and t. D. Knowing the psychology of suicides a little better, Chen Si chickens similar posters with more accurate words and put them more closely on the banks of the river. However, over time, only two remained. "Maybe the hooligans sold on scrap metal, maybe the municipal police confiscated – I don’t know," says patrol.

Chen Sy – a man is not religious. But he often goes to the temples to put incense for the recovery of those whom he saved, and the rest of those who could not be saved. "Despite all my efforts, most often I feel helplessness. Sometimes a person jumps from the bridge just 10 m from you. You just did not arrive. In such situations, I immediately turn away and leaving. Otherwise, I never forget their faces, "says Chen Si.

Every Christmas he, volunteers, some familiar ambulance psychologists and, of course, someone from the saved themselves gather on the "cardiac station" for dinner and share their impressions – the fact that amazing every day gives them life.

For 14 years Patrol-volunteer Chen S saved 325 people.

The actions of the Savior-enthusiasts, "My Planet" wrote the most effective at the time of sudden human despair, are "My Planet" in the article "Bridge Posts". Here is also told about Chen Sy, and about his associates in other countries of the world.
