Tivoli town and three villas
An hourly ride on the railway from Rome is located a cozy provincial town of Tivoli, known no longer with its own beauties, and three villas located nearby. The most famous of them – the villa of the ancient Italian genus D’Eeste, consisting of a palace with amazingly beautiful frescoes and a park with a lot of fountains immersing in greenery. By the way, this villa has become the prototype of the Russian Peterhof, because it is her "Water decoration" sought to surpass Peter I when creating his famous palace and park complex in St. Petersburg.

The second villa is called Gregorian and is also within walking distance (about 15 minutes) from the center of Tivoli. Gregorian is not at all similar to Villa d’Esta, here is the beauty of a completely different property. In fact, it is a huge forest park located on the slopes of two hills and in the gorge between them. However, in addition to cozy paths, there are beautiful waterfalls, grots and caves, tunnels done right in the rocks, and even the remnants of the Roman villa and the temple, once who were here were here. At the entrance to the park you will be offered a map with three degrees of complexity: since the terrain is rather hilly, not every visitor is physically able to master the coolest lifts and descents. But active fans of unity with nature on Villa Gregorian will find a lesson for the whole day!

And finally, the last villa – Adriana. She, in my opinion, is not an object "Must Visit" For two reasons. First, you are not so easy to get to it: you need to go from the center of Tivoli on the bus number 4 of the local company SAT, however, the reverse bus could not wait for us, and we left on the first thing I got, which turned out to be regional Cotral. Secondly, the adrian itself is a huge territory on which the ruins of the Roman Imperial Villa are scattered, in general, the attraction for an amateur of ancient ruins. On my subjective look, it is better to spend time for a walk along the town of Tivoli, rather than go to Villa Adriana.

Volcanic lake and papal residence
In the south of Rome (40 minutes by train) there is a small and very original Lake Albano, and on its shore in the town of Castel Gandolfo, at the moment, the recently held from his title of Pope Benedict XVI. By itself, the town is ordinary, but cute and stunning views of the lake. By the way, with these species you can choose a restaurant, prices in which will be completely humane, and the food is very tasty! The lake is unique because it is in the crater for a long time for an extinct volcano, a spectacle, I must say, original and picturesque!

Italian routes. Lazio Region

Viterbo and Banya – where the foot of the Russian traveler did not go
An important attractions of Lazio region is Viterbo (emphasis on the second syllable), one of the few almost perfectly retained their medieval appearance. You can get here by rail in two hours, leaving the Roman station of Ostiense in the direction of one of two stations Viterbo: Port of Roman or Port Fiorentina. Since the road is long, the city is rather big, and around him there is something to see, I would recommend to come here with overnight, but better with two. Watching Viterbo, you can go to the neighboring little-known village of Banya (from the city’s bus station), where I hit the net randomness, and so far this place remains one of my most vivid impressions from Italy. In addition, the town has retained its non-human medieval charm, in it we met with one of the locals, who immediately offered to taste the fault of his own production, and then also invited to the house to show how modestly live in Italian outback. It seemed that we were the first Russian travelers in Banya, although at the main tourist facility Villa Lanta, which is located outside the borders of the old city, did not go. Authentic vintage houses turned out to be much more interesting beautiful "hairstyle" parka.

Dead city of Chiviti di Balorebo
The most important thing is why you need to stay for the night in Viterbo – this is one of the most unique Italian cities, "dead city" Civita Di Balorego (in the first word emphasis on the second "and"). Once it was the usual settlement on the hill, however, the strong earthquake of 1695 halfway destroyed the city, and then landslides began, who threatened themselves to wipe off Civility Di Balorego. Therefore, all local residents gradually moved to the nearby hill, where they founded no less cute, but still not such an exotic city and called it just Bagnayzho. Right now in "Dead" Chivita nobody lives, although several residents are registered officially there. But tourists are enough and for them all the conditions are created – shops with souvenirs, cafes and restaurants, there is even a hotel. However, it is difficult to call this place because of its transport isolation. You can get here without a car Only on rare buses from three nearest major cities – Viterbo and Montefyasqueon in the Lazio region and Orvieto in Umbria. Website bus company WWW.COTRALSPA.IT. But you will come only to Bagnayzho, from where it will be necessary to go on foot through the whole city, and then on the bridge to Civility, and even the motorists will not be able to drive up to "Dead city" closely, according to the fragile bridge it is allowed to move only on a scooter or on its own legs.

Orvieto or a little umbrey for the company
Well, and if you get to Civility Di Baloreggo, then sin will not come to Orvieto, which is located already in the neighboring region of Umbria, but almost on the border with Lazio. Staying for the night in Viterbo, you can put a visit to Civita and Orvieto in one day, just have to get up very early, and return to the hotel very late, but this is actually actually. Alternative route options: from Viterbo (from the Fiorentine port station) to take a train with one transplant in 1.5 hours or directly from Rome on direct speed locomotive during the same time. Orvieto – the next medieval town on a hill, distinguished by a very beautiful cathedral (like 1.5 drops of water similar to Siena) and traditional old streets, which walks not so much and many tourists, because this region does not use such mad popular as, For example, neighboring Tuscany.
