Items that we use not by appointment
Someone uses the nozzle for robble as a suspension for glasses, and someone with a hairdressing curler strokes the gate of the shirt right on itself. Resourceful people were always. It is thanks to them today we don’t even know about the initial purpose of many household items. We tell about some.
Initial application: electricity generation and grinding of grain; element of locomotive
In the distance 1817, English engineer William Kubbit created a current generation device for factories. The current was to produce prisoners, coming on the blade of the wheel pumping water. The same device was used for grain grinding. The eight-hour working day of the prisoner employed by such labor was correlated with a daily climb on a 2200-meter height. It is not surprising that the criminals were in great shape. Prison doctors could not not pay attention to it – the idea of a treadmill appeared.
It was implemented in 1850 in the same England. True, not for medical purposes. Engineer Clemente Masserano created a sample of an inspextural locomotive, which called the impulsion. It was assumed that the car would move on rails. The heavy force was horses put on the platform, which also stood on the rails and had a wheel and mechanical treadmill. Horses, customized by the drivers, fled along the path, the wheels were spinning, the locomotive was driving along the rails.
And only in the 1950s, such a mechanism began to apply doctors – at first for the analysis of cardiac activity. The device created American engineers Robert Bruce and Wayne Quinton. And in 1968, Dr. Kenneth Cooper published a report on the benefits of training and the development of simulators not only in hospitals, but also at home. From this, the mass production of treadmills.
Initial application: wall pasting
In 1957, American Engineer Alfred Fielding and Swedish Inventor Mark Shanvan decided to create plastic textural wallpapers that could be easily clean and washed. Inventors took a loan and for six months created a sample of a machine, which continuously produced polyethylene bubbles. The first batch of films created in an ordinary shed. And then there was a mass production. But the pupil wallpapers "did not go". The reason for this is a strange design and tightness problems: bubbles that matter blown away.
And "wallpaper" began to use as a package. It is said that for the first time before that, a certain marketer Frederick Bauers thought, who wrapped in the pupil film intended for sending computers IBM. And in the 1960s, the film began to cover with a special solution, which ensured the durability of bubbles and protect them from blowing. So "anti-stress" packaging has won the world, and its inventors in 1993 contributed to the lists of the American National Hall of Fame inventors.
Initial application: medicine from nervous system disorders and impotence
In 2005-2015, this brand was recognized as the most expensive in the world. Coca-Cola is sold in more than 200 countries, and 94% of the inhabitants of the Earth were heard about it at least once in life. And invented it in 1886 in the US. The creator of the drink of all times and peoples became Pharmacist John Stetens Pemberton. Although then he did not suspect the future about the future, but he just tried to defeat his dependence on Morphia, to which, like many soldiers, was addicted during the American Civil War (it was used in injuries to alleviate pain). He began to experiment with the leaves of a cocaine bush, which is also called the Cocaine and from which cocaine.
So there was a drink, the main ingredients of which were three parts of the Koki leaves and one part of the nuts of the tropical Malvic tree cola. The name suggested by itself: Coca-Cola. Under it, the drink patented and began to sell as a medicine "From the disorders of the nervous system", and from impotence.
How did it happen that the drink that could contain narcotic substances, freely sold? Everything is simple: in those years, cocaine was not prohibited.
In the first years of its existence, the drink was not sold in bottles, but on bottling – in glasses in the pharmacy itself. Bottled Coca-Cola appeared only in 1894 and at first was unprofitable: only nine bottles were implemented on the day. In 1888, John Pemberton sold the right to the brand to someone Ace Griggsus Kendler, who founded the Coca-Cola Company, which is engaged in the production of pop and today. Pemberton himself died in the same 1888 and did not recognize the future glory of his brainchild. After the cocaine is forbidden, not fresh leaves of Coca began to add to the drink, and the cake, which certainly did not contain any narcotic substances. So Coca-Cola suggested on the planet.
Initial application: a device for getting rid of gynecological pain
If someone does not know, the vibrator is not just a dildo, which appeared in deep antiquity, but a real electrical device with a power source, switch and vibration intensity regulator. The precursor of the device was patented in 1869 by George Taylor. True, at that time he still worked from the steam engine, but was already equipped with a vibrating piston, which "treated" women from pain in the vagina.
In 1882, undergoing the idea, the British doctor Joseph Mortimer Granville invented the electrical apparatus. It was also an ordinary medical device for relieving pain and treatment of various gynecological diseases. With its task, a simple device coped to all the hundred, so in 1902, a certain Hamilton Beach patented the first manual vibrator, which could be used at home, and not in the hospital and, of course, not only to get rid of "pain". So the vibrator became one of the first domestic appliances.
Initial application: for security in the car
Machines with panoramic hatch are especially valued in a hot climate, although such a fixture was invented at all for venting. And not even to admire the clouds. This is what signature made the American magazine Modern Mechanix in September 1933 under a photo of a girl pulling the hatch cover from the car’s hood: "A car with fire towing accessible – a novelty represented by the British inventor. In the roof of the car, a large rectangular hole is made, usually closed well-fitted lid, which protects the driver and passengers from the Sun and precipitation. However, when an accident occurs when the car turns on the side, the fastenings of the covers are automatically unfolded, freeing the safe output for all who are in the car. The inventor declares that its development will make it possible to seriously reduce the number of victims of fires caused by road accidents ".
Initial Application: Insect Protection
Pillow – One of the most ancient inventions of humanity. Her story began 9000 years ago in ancient Mesopotamia. Interestingly, the pillows were then stone and served at all for comfort, but in order for the insects that the insects do not climb sleeping in the mouth, nose and ears. Stone pillows were the cheapest pleasure that only wealthy people could afford. In Egypt, the pillows were made at all from marble, ivory and ceramics, so they were even more expensive. They portrayed the gods and put pillows under the head late in the hope of protection against evil spirits. So the pillows at the time also had religious significance.
But the ancient Chinese believed that the material from which the pillow was made can benefit health. Therefore, experimented with bamboo, porcelain, jade and bronze products. The residents of the subway and soft pillows were made for the poor, but they did not advise sleeping on them – they believed that such a dream contributes to the loss of bodily energy. Massly use soft tissue pillows stuffed with cotton, cane or straw, steel Ancient Romans and Greeks. Web inhabitants Eldlated pillows with soft down pen. So the modern pillow appeared. True, it became available to the wide segments of the population only in the XIX century – with the beginning of industrial boom.
