Let’s call the first: Archimandrite Porphiry (to.A.Uspensky, 1804 – 1885.G., Head of RDM from 1847 to 1853.G.), Bishop Kirill (in.N.Naumov, 1823 – 1866.G., Head of RDM from 1858 to 1864.G.), archimandrite leonid (l.A.Cavelin, 1822 – 1891.G., Head of RDM in 1864.), Archimandrite Antonin (and.AND.Kapustin). Archimandrite Antonin, in the world Andrei Ivanovich Kapustin, was born in 1817 in the Perm province, in the family of a priest. Archimandrite Antonin died 24.03.1894. and was buried in the Church of the Ascension of the Spaso-Eleon Monastery. Russian presence in Palestine from pure diplomatic was transformed into spiritual and public, raising the prestige of Russia throughout the world. It began to increase the number of pilgrims on the Holy Land. From 1884 throughout Russia, the sale of the so-called, "pilgrim books" began. With the beginning of the First World War, the Turkish authorities ordered the whole Russian male population to leave the country, and the sisters were deported to Alexandria. All rooms were occupied by the Turkish authorities. The founder and first charter of the ROCI was the former rector of the Moscow and Kazan spiritual academies Metropolitan Anthony (and.NS.Kharabovitsky, 1863 – 1936.G.). Eleon Orthodox Women’s Monastery and the Church of Ascension
Eleon Mountain call differently oil or olive. And the case to purchase this site introduced himself in March 1870. Under the legs of the father Antonina lay archaeological wealth. Thus, the construction of the Ascension Church became legitimate.
The construction was difficult, the officials of all ranks were prevented, they had to infinitely incur. The friendly relationship with Selim-Efendi, under the authority of which was at that time the Holy Land: He, like Father Antonin, was a big amateur tea party. So, where – money, and where – personal charm, problems were solved, the solution of which led to the solemn consecration of the temple, church and bell tower in 1886 by the Greek Patriarch with Nicode.
The church was completely designed by the Father Antonin himself. He made her cruciform in the plan, with 24 windows in the Byzantine style. The main shrine of the temple, the sacred stone of the Virgin, was placed in the focus. Small arched niche in the wall covered on top of a canopy with a cross, lampada and the icon of the Mother of God. Iconostasis was brought from Athos, icons from Russia. Russian Orthodox Gefsema Women’s Monastery and Church of the Holy Equal-Apostles Mary Magdalene
The idea of building the temple in memory of Mother, Empress Mary Alexandrovna, suggested to her sons, great princes Sergey and Paul Alexandrovicham, Archimandrite Antonin, during their stay in Jerusalem in May 1881.
