Resorts of Austria: Kitzbühel
The city of Kitzbühel was founded in the early Middle Ages as the Miner’s village – Copper and Silver were mined in the surrounding mountains. Squat and brightly painted buildings of his historic core and today look very colorful. The city center lies between two old squares – VORDERSTADT and Hinterstadt, Each of which boasts its own colorful ensemble of medieval buildings. In one of these merchant mansions (XII in.) In the southern end of the Hinterstadt settled Local Lore Museum (4 euros), and between the squares rushes quite modest Church of Catarinenkirche, Now used as a memorial chapel in honor of the fallen in the fields of world wars. On a small plateau in the northern end of the VORDERSTADT, two more deserving churches are treated – parish (XV in.) with a harmonious ensemble of baroque altars and the grave of the Kapfershmidt family (a beautiful slab from a solid piece of red marble, engraved with scenes from the passions of Christ) and Lieberfaruenkirche (XVI-XVII centuries.) Rococo style slightly above the slope. Well, stretching through the whole area old quarters with their narrow streets and many colorful private houses by themselves completely deserve pairs of hours of walking.
Ski rest
Considered the place of birth of Austrian skiing, Kitzbühel is unlikely to need additional recommendations. Ski regions do not just surround the town from all sides – they spread far to the south, south-west and northeast, forming one huge zone of skiing, stretching from Mount Brehhorn (2031 m) to the skelters of Steinbergkel (1971 m) and Hanenkamma (1972 m ), then through Kitzbüheler Horn, 1996 m (Kitzbüheler Horn, 1996 m) and the town of Kirchberg (Kirchberg, 6 km on the west) to a 10 km south of the River Valley Jochberger-Ahe Town Jochberg (Pass Thurn, more 20 km south). A total of 170 km of perfectly prepared ski slopes of all levels of complexity (39% "blue", 46% "Red" and 15% "Black"), and the longest route – "blue" Pengelstein Süd on Kitzbueler-Horne – stretches almost 7 km. In addition to the huge number of slopes for beginners and several serious "Black" The tracks, for skiers of the average level, the extensive zone of Kitzbuhel Ski Safari, bound by a series of lifts and descents leading from Harankamma south to Tourna pass, from where a special bus takes out riding back to Kitzbühel.

The slopes are serviced by 55 lifts (bandwidth of 77 thousand people per hour!) and almost one and a half hundred snow guns. This is worth adding the highlighted track on the slopes of Jochberg (at the Wagstaettlift lift), the Kitzbuhel Ski Safari lift, the associated series of lifts and descents leading from Harankamma to the south to the tour pass (hence the special bus takes out riding back to Kitzbühel), a good area for freeride At the highway B4, 40 km of marked ski routes of all degrees of complexity plus about a hundred kilometers in adjacent valleys, snowboarding park with Stater Half Pipe and several springboard on Kitzbiuler-Horns, Bordercross-arena at the BrunellenLift lift (B5 track), numerous stern Trails, as well as hundreds of kilometers of routes for hiking.
From west over the city rises Peak Hanenkamm – not the highest (1655 m) in the region, but the most "Caught". Almost all his perimeter is braided by a network of lifts, and before the vertex itself can be reached by Hahnenkammbahn Gondola (June – Mid-October and from mid-December to April, 14.5 euros), which comes from the tourist office WWW.Kitzbuehel.Com. The restaurant next to the top station contains a small museum dedicated to the history of alpine sports (this is how it is preferred here to call the whole set of activities related to the mountains). On the northern shoulder of the mountains can be climbed by Fleckalmbahn Gondola (the same time), which begins at the village of Clausen (Klausen, 4 km west of the city). And then you can then get the rope to the highest mountain to the west of the city – Steinbergkel (1977 m).
